Our Mission

The Dalhousie Women in Engineering (WiE) Society is an open society, welcoming students who share common goals and interests relating to the advancement of equality for women within the engineering industry in both academia and professional practice. We aim to overcome the gender gap by facilitating the success of women studying engineering and promoting engineering as a career to local youth.

The society facilitates the success of women students by offering a variety of services such as hands-on skills workshops, career development workshops, volunteer opportunities to gain transferable skills, sponsorship to WIE conferences, and professional networking. The society also helps current WIE students by establishing a peer-support network for women on campus, creating a sense of belonging and community between members. In Dal WIE, members are encouraged to harness their own potential by removing self-doubt and allowing them to engage in leadership and volunteer positions within a supportive, yet bold society.

“It’s up to all of us

to be educated on unconscious bias and take collective action to remove the obstacles that girls and women face. It’s not about convincing every girl to enter STEM. It’s about ensuring that the girls that do have a passion for math and science know that they can and should continue.”

— Sara Evely, President of Dalhousie Women in Engineering 2019-2020
